(Please see note below regarding proofing symbols hand-out).

Extra credit opportunity is available at any point throughout the semester by way of completing dictation assignments in Chapter 12.

Attendance:

Regular attendance is expected because it is through regular attendance that you will hear and learn from the experience of your instructor as well as from the input (questions, answers, discussions, concerns) of others of the members of your class.  It is imperative that students please arrive on time so that class may begin promptly.

Please keep in mind that should you arrive excessively late, leave early or miss a class for reasons other than externships or family/personal emergency, you will receive a 0 for attendance that day. Should you need to make changes in your attendance due to externships/clinicals, a written communication will be required by e-mail or typewritten note, in order that you are given appropriate credit for class.  If any student has more than 2 unexcused absences, or has received a 0 for the above-stated reasons more than twice, they will need to meet with Ms. Floyd.

Make-up work:

It is the individual student’s responsibility to find out from one of his classmates, instructor and/or group members what materials he/she might have missed as the result of having missed a class session.

Academic Dishonesty

Plagiarism and cheating are serious offenses and may be punished by failure on exam, or homework or failure of the course, and/or suspension/expulsion from the college.

Resources

The College has adequate resources to assist students in researching projects (i.e. books, magazines, newspapers, Internet, LIRN).

Changes

In accordance with the policy of the College, your instructor has the right to change the syllabus in a manner that he/she feels necessary in order to better accomplish the goal(s) of this course.

Additional Tips/pointers

·         Previous students have found it very helpful to hand write their dictation prior to trying to transcribe.

·         Internet research is by far encouraged in this course, when doing your assignments. This is an invaluable tool for today’s transcriptionist, no matter the specific industry (publishing, law, medical, etc), in producing a quality document.
